The picture above is looking north and is oriented like the map below. Click on it for larger version.

It is taken from Piazza Michelangelo which is marked as "Overlook" on the bottom right of the map. I hope to rent a van where we dock in Livorno and drive the 120 kilometers to this spot to start our tour of Florence. The large bridge on the left hand side of the picture is the Ponte Vecchio and on the right the prominent dome or Duomo of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. The tall tower near the center is the Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza della Signoria the political center of the city. There is a copy of the Statue of David in the piazza. A walking tour from the parking garage over the Ponte Vecchio, to the cathedral and back is about a mile and a half. From there we will have to decide whether we want to tackle the somewhat more challenging Boboli Gardens and the Pitti Palace or just take a leisurely drive back through the Tuscan countryside. We may also want to stop in Pisa to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa before we return to the ship.
